Days 1 & 2 - open surgery

  • Moderate and difficult access bowel
  • Anastomoses
  • Dealing with size discrepancy
  • Gastrectomy, oesophageal and rectal anastomoses
  • Stapled anastomoses and stomas

 Day 3 - vascular surgery

  • Needle and suture-handling techniques
  • Arteriotomy
  • Vein patching
  • Inlay parachute vascular anastomoses

 Day 4 - minimal access surgery

  • Principles of safe laparoscopic surgery
  • Laparoscopic cholecystectomy
  • Operative cholangiography
  • Closure of port sites

Format

Practical skills teaching with a tutor to participant ratio of 1:4, supported by tutorials, videos and discussion sessions
