NHLI Foundation Studentships

The National Heart and Lung Institute Foundation’s interest is in all aspects of heart, lung and cardiovascular disease.  The Foundation awards grants to the National Heart and Lung Institute to assist the Institute in carrying out research, development and education in heart and lung medicine.

The NHLI Foundation Studentship training programme offers annual ‘1 + 3’ studentships enabling graduates with excellent honours degrees (1 or 2.i UK equivalent) to undertake a four year training programme that includes a Masters and a PhD.

Successful applications are expected to register for an MRes component (yr 1) in the first instance.  Successful award of the MRes degree (with Merit) is followed by PhD studies (yrs 2-4), on the NHLI Foundation research project of their choice.  Applicants with a relevant Masters degree may be exempt from year one of the programme.

NHLI Foundation students have progressed to postdoctoral positions throughout the UK, Europe and the World.  UK first destinations include Imperial College London, University College London, Nuffield Department of Clinical Medicine (Oxford), Leeds Institute of Molecular Medicine and the University of Dundee.

Applications are usually open in December each year, with application deadlines and interviews normally held in January.
