The BSc in Pharmacology and Translational Medical Science (UCAS code BB29) has been set up with the strong encouragement of the pharmaceutical industry, as well as government, to help deal with the lack of trained pharmacologists in this country. In addition to pharmacology, this course will cover basic aspects of biomedical science, and will have a strong emphasis on the translation of basic science to the clinical setting. It will be of particular interest to those interested in careers in pharmaceutical or government research agencies, as well as those that want to undertake research in universities, or join graduate entry programmes in medicine. The general background will also suit those who wish to use their scientific knowledge in other ways, for example in patent law or regulatory bodies.
This BSc will be withdrawn in 2011-12. Students wishing to study Pharmacology and Translational Medical Sciences may do so as part of the new Specialist course option in the BSc in Biomedical Sciences from 2011 onwards.
BMAT
Candidates are also required to take the Biomedical Admissions Test (BMAT).
