The structure of the clinical programme is built around the Faculty of Medicine’s well established strategic research themes.
Potential Supervisors for Wellcome Trust Clinical PhD
Potential PhD supervisors have been selected from the Faculty's 450 Principal Investigators on the basis of their scientific excellence, specifically with respect to offering a clinical scientist the opportunity to develop their research skills in a truly world class environment.
The faculty wishes to encourage clinicans to consider research training in a basic science laboratory. Details of basic science laboratories can he found here.

About the Programme
Mentoring
All Clinical PhD programme fellows will be able to choose a named mentor, independent of their supervisor, who will be able to offer career guidance, personal and academic support, and help bridge the transition from clinical work to research, and back again.
The Graduate School
All appointees to the programme will be members of the Graduate School and will have access to the training described below.
Generic and transferable skills training
The Graduate School is responsible for delivering and monitoring the majority of the generic (non-research specific) and transferable skills training for postgraduates. This training is designed to dovetail with the subject-specific and generic research training provided by the students’ PhD laboratory and Department/Division/Centre. The range and depth of this programme allows students to develop a broad range of key skills. PhD students are required to attend a minimum of 5 workshops as part of the transfer from MPhil to PhD. There is a choice of ten courses on the ‘core’ list, together with the three-day residential course specially designed for students on year 1 of their PhD (Research Skills and Development Course)
