GMC Sponsorship for International Medical Graduates

International Sponsorship Scheme

The Scheme

Imperial College is able to sponsor well-qualified and highly recommended doctors, who wish to undertake part of their research in the UK. It is only intended for those who will return to their home country to practice with the skills they have gained, at the end of the sponsored period.

Imperial College will only consider sponsoring overseas doctors meet the following criteria:

  • Already offered a suitable post by a senior member of Imperial College academic staff
  • Awarded a scholarship, official funding or a salary. (The scheme does not encompass financial support for candidates).

The candidate

Before applying the candidate will have been interviewed and have been offered a position in the college by their supervisor. To commence the application the applicant must complete an Initial International Sponsorship Form and send it to r.poulter@imperial.ac.uk

The Supervisor

The Supervisor should first conduct a structured interview as outlined in the regulations. Structured interview questions are available from the Postgraduate Medicine Administrator.

The supervisor should then complete the supervisor form (see below) and return it with the specified documents to the Postgraduate Medicine Administrator (r.poulter@imperial.ac.uk).

Fee

There is a fee of £300 for administration payable after the postgraduate administrator has received the Initial International Sponsorship form and deems the candidate initially suitable. 

Please note:

Applications should be made as far in advance of the expected start date for the post as possible. The timeframe for processing applications varies depending on the complexity of each case. Applications are processed in order of receipt, and all correspondence will be dealt with as quickly as possible.  It is unlikely to take less than 3 months to process applications from initial contact.

International English Language Testing System (IELTS)

From 1st October 2010 we will require a minimum IELTS score of 7.0 in all four areas, and 7.0 overall.
