WHO Collaborating Centre for Public Health Education and Training

The WHO Collaborating Centre for Public Health Education and Training focuses on health as complete physical, mental and social well-being; not merely the absence of disease.
Over the last five years (pre and post-designation period) the Collaborating Centre has supported the World Health Organisation's work on promoting health principles, enhancing the role of primary health care, strengthening human resource capacity, addressing the escalating problem worldwide of non-communicable disease, assessing the impact of technology, and finally, preparing and supporting countries in strengthening their national health systems and management capabilities.
Since 2006, we have run a successful Postgraduate Fellowship programme for Public Health and Family Medicine doctors. Our fellows spend 2-3 days a week on placements in the NHS, and the rest of their time undertaking research within the Department of Primary Care and Public Health.
Our innovative approach has been instrumental in ensuring better health for all in many countries around the world.
The Director of the WHO Collaborating Centre Professor Salman Rawaf has a long history of public health work at local, national and international levels as well as 25 years as clinician and executive in the NHS. He is also an adviser to the WHO on primary care, public health, health systems and medical education.
