Professor Brian Spratt CBE Received his Honour from Her Majesty the Queen in a Ceremony at Buckingham Palace
On Wednesday 25th June, in a ceremony at Buckingham Palace, Professor Brian Spratt received his CBE for services to science from Her Majesty the Queen. Brian was accompanied by his wife Jiaji and two sons, Tim and Harry.

HIV research receives top recognition as one of the Lancet's paper of the Year
A paper from Dr Christophe Fraser and colleagues (Fraser C et al. Proc Natl Acad Sci USA 2007; 104: 17441-46) in the department was selected by the Lancet as one of the 'research papers published in the past year that make the greatest potential contribution to clinical research'. Read more

Schistosomiasis research receives 3Rs prize from the National Center
Dr Charlotte Gower has been awarded the 2007 Replacement, Refinement and Reduction (3Rs) Prize for a paper on Schistosoma mansoni* (Gower C. et al. Parasitology 2007,134: 523-536). The prize, from the National Centre for the 3Rs, was presented to Lottie by the Minister of State for Science and Innovation, Ian Pearson MP, on 16th January 2008. Read more

Academic Promotions
The department has received excellent news of this year's round of promotions, in which four members of academic staff are awarded new titles:
Dr Mark Enright becomes Professor of Molecular Epidemiology;
Dr Maria-Gloria Basanez is made Reader in Parasite Epidemiology;
Dr Helen Ward is made (Clinical) Reader in Social Epidemiology;
