As a Strategic Theme for focused development, Cancer has several key research strengths, both basic and clinical. These include gynaecological oncology, breast cancer, surgical oncology, tumour virology and lung cancer.

A major underlying research strength is the molecular biology of cancer. Various aspects of molecular imaging are also of importance. Recent achievements include the elucidation of the structure and mechanism of the multi-drug resistance P-glycoprotein.

Strategic Theme Leader for Cancer: Professor Charles Coombes (c.coombes@imperial.ac.uk).
