Dr Manmeet K Matharoo

Dr. Matharoo is a Gastroenterologist in training through the London Deanery.  Her undergraduate BSc was in the History of Medicine' at The Wellcome Institute, for which she gained a first class degree with honors.  During this degree she published a dissertation entitled, 'The mad genius debate revisited (1860-1900): fact or fiction?'

Dr. Matharoo graduated from St. Mary's Hospital, Imperial College London in 2002 and is a Member of the Royal College of Physicians.  She developed an interest in Gastroenterology early on in her training as the specialty combines interventional procedures through Endoscopy, as well chronic disease management in a varied patient population. 

Dr. Matharoo has a passion for medical teaching and holds 'Clinical Lectureship Status' at Imperial College.  As a teaching fellow she has taught both undergraduate and postgraduate medical students bedside clinical skills as well as procedures in a simulation clinical skills laboratory. 

Dr. Matharoo's current research centres around optimising team function and improving patient safety within Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.  She is affiliated with The Wolfson Unit for Endoscopy at St. Mark's Hospital.  Active research studies are detailing current safety measures in Endoscopy and novel methods in which these can be improved.  Additionally, she is developing Non-Technical Skills training for Bowel Cancer Screening Endoscopy Teams.  

Dr. Matharoo's interests outside of medicine include Indian literature as well as Art and she has painted murals and abstract canvases.
