Dr Kirsty Smith
I am a lecturer in the Department of Investigative Medicine and the Centre for Integrative Mammalian Physiology and Pharmacology (CIMPP). My research focuses on the role of hypothalamic neuropeptides in the regulation of energy homeostasis. In order to study the neuronal circuitry involved, I use recombinant adeno-associated virus (rAAV) as a vector for gene transfer to alter neuropeptide expression within discrete hypothalamic nuclei. This approach will enable me to further understand the mechanisms involved in the development of obesity
My research is funded by the BBSRC, the Society for Endocrinology and the HHTRC
