Imaging Sciences Department
The Imaging Sciences Department was formed in August 2001 to pursue research and post graduate teaching in the field of biomedical imaging and spectroscopy. The department was created by bringing together established groups working on MRI, Ultrasound and RF modeling. The department is part of the Clinical Sciences Centre, which is both a division of the Medical Faculty and a national MRC institute. The department has staff of established scientists and clinicians as well as post doctoral researchers and a lively PhD programme run in association with the MRC Clinical Sciences Centre. The research of the department spans a wide range of medical and scientific topics, see menu at left. We are located at the Hammersmith Hospital Campus and have extensive facilities including 3 whole body MR systems, 2 high field MR systems, a high resolution NMR system, miniature PET, Ultrasound and bioluminescence systems. We also have both biology and physics laboratory facilities.
There are also strong links with the Directorate of Imaging in the Hammersmith Hospital NHS Trust (Director Prof Phil Gishen) and with the Imperial College Imaging Sciences Centre
Head of Department: Professor Jo Hajnal
