Imperial College Wellcome Trust Clinical PhD Programme
The Wellcome Trust’s Clinical PhD Programme will have a single intake of 5 clinical research training fellows in October each year.
The programme is aimed at supporting the most promising medically qualified clinicians who wish to undertake rigorous research training.

The Imperial College Wellcome Trust Clinical PhD programme has been built around the Faculty’s well established strategic research themes. The programme:
- Builds on the strong track record of Imperial in developing the academic careers of young clinicians
- Provides the highest quality research training
- Provides training fellows with a choice of projects across a range of disciplines
- Offers a selection of PhD supervisors of international academic renown
- Allows training fellows to be embedded in research teams of international standing
- Provides access to the breadth of scientific opportunity provided by Imperial College’s science base in medical, biological, engineering and physical sciences
- Incorporates a ‘community’ of research trainees, and an environment of interaction with other clinical training research fellows and students on other PhD programmes

The Wellcome Trust has funded Imperial College for 5 Clinical PhDs per year for 6 years commencing from 2008.
