DDC to provide project management support for new "Therapeutic Primer Fund" (February 2012)

Imperial NIHR Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) and Imperial Innovations are pleased to announce a call for proposals under the auspices of their newly created Therapeutic Primer Fund.

Imperial is keen to promote the discovery and development of therapeutics for areas of unmet medical need, and this fund has been established to pump-prime the early stages of drug/therapeutic discovery within the Imperial Academic Health Science Centre (Imperial College London and Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust environments).

Any therapeutic project originated at Imperial (including small molecule, biological and cell therapy approaches) that aims to deliver a section of work at any stage from target validation through to first-time-in-man will be eligible for funding.  Pure clinical projects are outside the scope of this call as they have alternate funding schemes available.

This closing date for expressions of interest is Friday 30th March.

Full details of the call together with the application form are in the document below.

DDC lead discussion in Thomson Reuters Webinar: Target Validation (August 2011)

Dr Cathy Tralau-Stewart, head of the Drug Discovery Centre at Imperial, was a key speaker at the well attended Webinar "Target Validation: the key to more efficient drug discovery" organised by Thomson Reuters on August 3rd.

The debate concerned how to improve early target validation and accelerate development of novel drug candidates.  Specific topics included:

  • How can we improve success rates?
  • Are optimized animal models the only way to go or are there alternatives?
  • What added benefits are realized from the inclusion of molecular information? Can we do target validation in patients?
  • Are the lessons of yesterday an indication of success tomorrow?

Interest was lively, and the webinar is available to listen to via this link.
