Robert Steiner MR Unit
The Robert Steiner MR Unit is named in honour of Professor Robert Steiner, who was the first professor of radiology in the UK, president of both the Royal College Radiologists and the British Institute of Radiology and a founder member of the Fleischner society. He was head of Radiology at was then the Royal Post Graduate Medical School (now Imperial College faculty of Medicine) and the Hammersmith Hospital until 1983. A pioneer in cardiac radiology, he was pivotal to the early exploration of Clinical MRI carried out at Hammersmith and his dedicated support was critical to the development of the MR research unit which now bears his name. We have three MR scanners, including a Philips 3T Intera and a 1.5T Eclipse system with comprehensive multi-nuclear capability. A new 1.5T system will be installed this year with funding from SRIF II and the Medical Research Council and the 3T system will be upgraded to an Achieva.
For further information please contact Professor Jo Hajnal or Dr Serena Counsell (serena.counsell@imperial.ac.uk), or telephone our receptionist Dulcie Rodrigues on 020 8383 3297.
