Postgraduate Certificate
There are three modules that must be successfully completed to graduate with a PG Cert in Infection Management for Pharmacists.
Understanding Microbiology and Infection
The aim of this module is to give students a solid grounding in the basics of microbiology, infection and diagnosis, including an introduction to the use of the microbiology laboratory, an understanding of the basic drug-classes of anti-infectives and their mechanisms of action.

The Basics of Antimicrobial Resistance
The aim of this module is to give students a thorough understanding of the mechanisms, surveillance and epidemiology of resistance, and factors which contribute to its emergence.

Therapeutics of Major Clinical Syndromes
This module aims to give students a thorough and up-to-date knowledge of the management of a range of important infections.

Postgraduate Diploma
After completion of the certificate, there are a further three modules that must be completed to graduate with a PG Dip in Infection Management for Pharmacists.
Research Design and Epidemiology
This module aims to give students a solid grounding in epidmiology, study designs, applied statistical methods and data presentation.

Principles of Good Prescribing
This module aims to give students an understanding of the strategic process of using antimicrobials in the prevention and treatment of infection.

Industry, Strategy and Policy
The aim of this module is to give students and understanding of how new antimicrobials are developed, the role that industry plays in resistance, and national policies relating to resistance. It also aims to develop an understanding of the government, legal and strategic policies affecting prescribing practice and resistance. Finally a vision of the potential developments and changes that will affect their practice over the next decade will be provided.

MSc
To complete the MSc, students must complete an individual Research Project, which you will be expected to have identified by mid-way through your first year. Abstracts will be submitted for presentation at the UKCPA annual symposium, and students are encouraged to publish their research.
You will be able to choose, in consultation with your project supervisor, any other area of the course in which you are interested. A list of sample titles is available on request. Research will be carried out at your base site or at Imperial College, Hammersmith campus or at the Health Protection Agency, Colindale.
Stand-Alone Modules
All the modules mentioned above can be attended as Stand-Alone Modules with an optional assessment. These modules are booked through the School of Professional Development.
