There will be three written examinations and one practical examination. These will take place at the end of the taught module. The students will submit a thesis on their research projects, which will be evaluated; in addition there will be individual oral examinations on the research project and course work.
The overall pass mark will be 50% and a grade of merit will be awarded for a mark of 60% or greater, and a distinction will be awarded for a mark of 70% or greater.
Final marks will be assessed as follows:
- Course work - 10%
- Exams on taught module - 45%
- Thesis and oral exam - 45%
Formal in-course assessment will include poster and research presentations. Also, students will be assessed informally throughout the course and will be reviewed regularly by the course organisers and project supervisors.
